Basketball is a very familiar sport that is being played all over the world. Generally, basketball is being played by 2 teams of 5 players each. The basketball players get to score by shooting the ball through a hoop which generally measures twenty feet. Of course do not forget there are some important rules to basketball. Basketball goes all the technique back to the year 1891 when a lecturer and student of physical science education came up with the game. It was Dr. James Naismith who came up with basketball as a game to keep his school students indoors during the winter season.
After many unsuccessful ideas, he finally came up with basketball from a student?s game called Duck on a Rock. The name was suggested by one of his school students. He set up a peach basket on top of a track that was eminent ten feet high. The peach basket was together with this on its bottom. Every time someone shoots the ball, it had to be pushed out with a long pole. Also, the ball that they used was essentially a soccer ball. So at that time, dribbling was not part of the game. It was just a passing of the ball until the basketball player shoots it into the basket.
It was even documented in Dr. Naismith?s journals that he was not that convinced with his invented game. But he was erroneous. Basketball game became so admired. Within only one month of inventing the basketball game, YMCA already held the first ever official basketball game in their gymnasium. There were 9 players who participated in that game. The size of the basket ball court was only half of the courts used in NBA or National Basketball Association which is so far the largest federation of basketball competition.
From then on, the basketball game started to extend out. In the same year, women?s basket ball was made-up by tweaking some of the rules made by Dr. Naismith. It was a P.E. teacher, Senda Berenson, who modified the basket ball game rules.
Basketball game sprawled fast all over the United States of America, and then to Canada also. As the basketball rules have constantly been modified and governing associations were prepared, basketball game was loved by the world. It was in the 1950s that the present basketball was introduced with the orange ball that we know today. It was made of leather with pebbles for enhanced grip. Tony Hinkle was the one who established that ball to the basketball game. As the basketball shape has enhanced, dribbling then became a part of the game basketball.
